In what would prove to be Reggie Millers last good chance to win a ring, the Pacers fell to the Pistons in 6 games. The Eastern Conference finals found the Pistons playing the first seeded Pacers who had great players like Reggie Miller (even though he was way past his prime), young Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest, and Stephen Jackson. There were many exciting moments during the series, such as the Nets triple over time in game five, or the Pistons holding the Nets below 70 points twice. In what would become one of the most entertaining series' of the playoffs, the Pistons beat the Nets in seven games. The second round wouldn't be as easy for the Pistons, as they faced the defending Eastern Conference champions, the New Jersey Nets, headlined by flashy players like Vince Carter and Jason Kidd. The Pistons quickly dismantled the Bucks in five games, having a victory margin of at least ten points in every game they won. In the first round the Pistons were matched up against the Milwaukee Bucks, led by Sidney Moncrief, Paul Pressey, and Ricky Pierce. The Lakers scraped by Garnett and the T-Wolves in six games.ĭetroit didn't have quite as much of a difficult journey to the finals as LA, even though they were just the third seed. The Western Conference Finals had the Lakers matches up against Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Kevin Garnett. After the Spurs won the first two games, the Lakers went on a tear and won four straight to advance. Next up was the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, led by Tim Duncan. The first round was a matchup with Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets, which they won in five games. ![]() Fun fact: the 2004 Pistons are the only team to ever win an NBA championship without having a single all star.Įven though though they were the 2nd seed, the Lakers definitely didn't have an easy path to the finals. ![]() ![]() With the help of Rasheed Wallace, who was acquired at the trade deadline, the Pistons finished 54-28, which meant they were the 3rd seed in the East. They didn't really have any players viewed as superstars, but instead had a sound defensive team with good depth. The Pistons, even coming off of an Eastern Conference Finals in 2003, were mostly an afterthought going in to 2004.
